Mount Kinabalu Park: This flora and fauna botanical paradise covers an area of 754 square kilometers. The biggest attraction in Kinabalu Park would be the Mount Kinabalu Botanical Garden and one of the world’s most prominent mountains, Mount Kinabalu, which peaks at 12, 455 feet above sea level. Kinabalu Park is open daily from 7am to 5pm.

Poring Hot Springs: The ‘Poring’ in Poring Hot Springs is in fact the Kadazan word for “Bamboo”.  Thus, the true English translation of the Malay ”Poring Air Panas” should be “Bamboo Hot Springs”. However, nobody bothered; hence forth it is known as Poring Hot Springs.  Back in the day, oh say, a million years or so ago, Mt. Kinabalu must have been an active volcano.  If you’ve ever been to the summit, you will see the obviousness of this statement there.

Itinerary

08:00am            Depart from the hotel.  The journey takes roughly 1 ½ hours drive through scenic countryside and beautiful mountain range.  A brief stop at Nabalu Market gives you the opportunity to buy local handicrafts and local fruits.

09:30am            Another 1 hour drive through mountainous range to reach Poring Hot Springs.  Pass by Kundasang, Sabah’s vegetables growing valley.

10:30am            Arrive at Poring Hot Springs.  A 20-minute hike is needed to reach the Treetop Canopy Walkway.  Experience the height of 41 meters from the forest’s floor and the length of 157.6 meters.  Take a bird’s eye view of the rainforest.

After the rainforest walk, take a dip in the outdoor Japanese style bathtubs which the sulphuric hot water is believed to have medicinal value to your skin.

01:30pm            Lunch.

02:30pm            Proceed to Kinabalu Park.

03:00pm            Visit the Mountain Garden and learn the values that are kept in all types of plants, trees and flowers for the local community while being astonished with the plants diversity that the park has to offer.

04:00                Transfer back to Kota Kinabalu.
